Sie steht für moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst und um die 300 hochkarätige Galerien aus allen Kontinenten sind jedes Jahr hier vertreten. Die schöne und offene Schweizer Stadt Basel bietet aber auch über die ART hinaus viel Kultur; so stehen dem Besucher das ganze Jahr hindurch etwa 40 Museen zu Verfügung, eine hochgeschätzte Musikszene von Klassik über Jazz zu Rock/Pop (nicht zu vergessen der international geschätzte Ruf der Musikhochschule) sowie eine breitgefächerte Theaterszene von über 25 Bühnen.

Close to 300 art galeries from all over exibit high-quality art: paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and multimedia. 61'000 visitors attended the Art 40 in 2009. Thus, the city of Basel turns into an international center of art once a year; beyond all that the offer of culture is widely varied all year long.
